Gamer Porn - Unpacking Stars Without Number!

The betrothed  got me an early  birthday present from Noble Knight Games! The awesome Stars Without Numbers book by Kevin Crawford from Mongoose Games. There is also the Skyward Steel book to go along with it!

D20 Quick Observations a Stars Without Number
  1. Adaptable character classes make this a winner with the template overlays! Very much a plus!
  2. Very well edited rules set & very old school!
  3. Campaign background very Traveler, very detailed, & a departure from the Warhammer mentality
  4. The free background material compliments the game is better then some of the pay stuff on Drivethru rpg
  5. Game has been out for 1 year now & the Mongoose edition has the better  material with the additonal Robotics & AI sections
  6.  The Xeno & technology sections are extensive & well thought out
  7. The game is perfect for old school science fictional goodness from the '30s through '60s & is done in the best pulp tradition
  8. Tags & Factions are very nice for quick & dirty Npcs groups
  9. This game will work with other retro clones but there are some game balance issues  that can easily be solved
  10. Mecha & robots do add a certain Gundam, Star Blazers, etc. vibe!
  11. The rules set doesn't get in the way of a creative DM instead enhances it
  12. The psychic rules actually work which is a plus
  13. The DM's resources are decent & well thought out
  14. The combat is scaled for individuals & mass combat as well very interesting
  15. The game system can be used for a number of genres including post apocalyptic & science fantasy very easily. In fact the factions & tags  are perfect for the politics of science fantasy
  16. Space Ship combat & construction rules are detailed & solid. They work with Terminal Space
  17. Perfect set for convention games & adventures
  18. New School or Old School this game actually works well!
  19. Well worth the money & for myself this is a useful game!
  20. This is going to be useful for Star Ships & Space Men because of the level of detail that most Trekkies & Sci Fi Gamers are used to!

  1. I couldn't agree with you more. I honestly don't understand why we don't hear more about this game.

I'm not sure why we're not hearing more about Stars Without Numbers? The game is fast, well edited, & interesting to say the least. It deserves more & I'm going to be doing more with the system soon
